A Hand-Me-Down of Sorts

top: costco, skirt: vintage, belt: thrifted, wedges: target
I'll be putting up some photos from my trip to Minnesota before long, but I wanted to throw a post together with what I wore today because I've got a cool story to tell about this 70s vintage skirt that I'm wearing. This, along with a whole box of other vintage clothes, came from my Great Grandma Sylvia. Not the one that I went to Minnesota to see (that was my Grandpa's mom), but instead my Granny's mother, who passed away a couple of years ago. My Granny and her siblings were going through her things and very fortunately, asked if I wanted anything. Long story short, while we were in MN, my mom picked out a bunch of things that she thought I might like (either to have, or perhaps to sell on my Etsy).

While I wasn't extremely close to my great grandma, I think it's very special to be wearing her clothes. This is why I love to wear vintage - it's just so fascinating to think about... Someone 30, 40, 50 years ago wore this dress; this blouse. I just think it's so neat! :) What are your thoughts on that? Have you worn vintage that belonged to someone in your family? I can't wait to show you all the other pieces that were passed on to me! ♥ xx

  1. That's the same reason I love vintage! It's clothing that's got a story attached to it, which I love. It's so nice that you were able to find some of your great grandma's things to wear! That skirt looks wonderful on you, lady :)

  5. It's stupendously cool that your family would think to pass your great-grandma's clothes onto you! It's funny how this chevron skirt looks perfectly modern the way you've styled it-- I wonder how Sylvia wore it!

My grandmother just gave her 1957 sewing machine to me. While I don't have any vintage clothes from inside my family, I intend to MAKE clothes on this vintage machine!

  6. It is special to know the story of behind things (or even to know they have a story). It is a lovely skirt, and lovely memory to wear dung the the day.

I have an old mickey-mouse sweater that was my grandmas! It seems so well made--I really like that lots of vintage pieces are such good quality, you know? :)

This skirt has such a neat pattern. That's another thing about vintage things, they have such unique patterns!

  14. Getting things passed to you from relatives is always so exciting. I love that that skirt was your great grandma's. It makes for an interesting story. I really love the print on it too.
I've only ever gotten jewelry from relatives but a lot of it is costume stuff so it's really fun to incorporate it into my wardrobe.
