dress & clutch: vintage, wedges: thrifted
One of my favorite people to spend time with is my mom. In the past few years I occasionally even found myself hanging out with her more than with girlfriends my own age. I felt a little nervous about it, wondering if I was so antisocial that I had to result in hanging out with my mom... But generally these thoughts last only a minute or so and then I remind myself that my mom is actually much more cool than half the people I know. So basically - whatever!
She's working a 9-5 job now, which she had not done most of my childhood, so I unfortunately don't see her around the house as much as I used to. I'm really happy for her though because she's enjoying her job which is great! And we still make time to see each other and hang out like we both enjoy doing. Just this past week on Tuesday I went to go meet her for lunch and chat during her hour long break. My schedule this summer has been nothing but flexible and basically I can do what I want when I want. No, I don't have a job which is a bad thing but also a good thing. And believe me, I'm going to be getting a work's study job come this fall anyway.
I wore this vintage dress to our little lunch date - it is one of the dresses from my great-grandma Sylvia. We've been having obscure chilly days here in Marin and this day was one of them. I was actually quite content with the long sleeves of this 70s frock. My mom believes that my great-grandma wore this dress to my mom's highschool graduation! I wonder if there's a photo from the occasion? Wouldn't it be cool to see the original owner wearing something you've worn? :) xx

love the pictures and you are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteMy mom is probably my best friend too0 mind you, I'm post-college now, but it was probably that way even in high school.
ReplyDeleteYou look very nice btw.
I think you should def post a tutorial on the coloring you use on your pictures... it is amazing!
ReplyDeleteBtw, the fabric of this dress just makes it even more awesome.
Ahh, glad I'm not alone!--I hang out with my mom all the time, way more than I do with friends my own age... she's the only person I can shop successfully with, go out to eat at healthy places (my friends aren't always the healthiest of eaters...), and we love to do crafts and stuff together. <3 No, it's not odd at all! Be glad you have a great relationship with your mother. :) I'm so happy that you were able to go to lunch with her, even though she works so hard every day!~ <3 So yeah, I hope your lunch was super lovely.
ReplyDeleteThat dress is stunning! The pleats on it are just lovely, and it's such a darling shade.
Could that dress be ANY MORE PERFECT!? You're killing me here!! Seriously, I love it so much. That would be awesome if your grandma owned it before! I've always wondered about what the owner was like of my "new to me" vintage items.
ReplyDeleteI probably spent (ahem, definitely) spent 190% of my time with my mom until I bought my own home. My momma is so awesome and easy going- she literally knows me inside out and is the best thrift partner I know. All of my friends my age aren't so into thrifting, so I can tell her blood runs through my veins :). My mom works from 7-6 daily now so I never get to see her except for at church or when she stops by after work. It was hard to adjust at first but now it's great because I have even more excuses to go thrifting together :P!

It's nice that you have such a great relationship with your mom - I love hanging out with my parents as well!

You are the cutest ever!! I am so in love with that dress...I want to borrow it haha SO beautiful and I love that it's vintage :)
ReplyDeleteThat dress is fantastic! Love that it's actually vintage that was owned by your family! I wish my mom had kept some of her old clothes and whatnot.
ReplyDeleteThe dress is GORGEOUS and such a beautiful treasure <3 moments with your mother sound amazing! Hope you have a great summer together!
ReplyDeleteYou're so lucky to have vintage clothes from your relations! I only have a few precious pieces - my great, grand aunt used to have the most beautiful clothes but she got rid of most of them before I was born or when I was just a little kid. :( So sad.
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally know what you mean about your mom! I don't have many friends my age in my area, so I hang out with my mom tons! We like to joke that where normal moms and daughters like to go shopping we just go out to eat. Lol! It's kinda our "thing" now. xD
Love your super cool vintage dress! <3
ReplyDeleteThat is a great dress! I just found your blog, it's absolutely beautiful. xx

Aw, I love my mom, too. I love that as I've gotten older, we've become better "friends" rather than just "mother and daughter". In fact, with my whole break-up, she's been my favorite person to go to and talk to about it. Moms are just so smart! And that dress is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYou are just the cutest thing! I absolutely love knowing the history of my clothes. :) And don't worry, there's nothing wrong with hanging out with your mama. I love my mom!
