Battle of the Bands, plus a giveaway winner...!

tank top: thrifted, trousers, belt, & shoes: goodwill
Yesterday was such a crazy day. Already mostly sleep deprived from going to bed at 1:30 am and getting up at 6 am, my Friday was exhausting yet very fun! After school, I got my hair trimmed, then met up with my friends Jessica and Nat because we were going to go to Battle of the Bands together later that night. We got Subway for dinner and then got a ride with a guy from our school and two other guys (a pretty packed car...!) into San Francisco.

We got to the show and saw one band go on before Handshake, my friends' band. The set was a list of 10 bands, but we got there to see the last 3. Handshake was really great! And all three of the last bands were so diverse, it was pretty funny. The first one we saw had 3 singers that would rap and sing... and a saxophone player! Handshake finished their set with two trumpets sounding, and the final band was a death metal/screamo band...with scary moshing and everything!

Everyone cheered for who they wanted to win at the end, and I guess that's how the winner was decided. Handshake came in 3rd place out of 10 bands! It was a shame they didn't win, but we were all so glad that they did so well! :)

Anyway, a throat irritation I've had for the past week has now evolved into a painfully raw sensation, plus some congestion. That is the downfall of no sleep, and then some screaming. Oh well. It was a fun night! I love seeing bands live in small venues. It's much more personal and enjoyable to me.

AHHHHHHH AND FINALLY, the winner of my giveaway! After much deliberation from the judges... (just kidding. it was all random.org) the winner is... Courtney! Expect an email sometime soon! x
(p.s. it was 70 degrees today. that is why i am wearing a tank top. be jealous.)

  7. i always thought that it was so silly to judge battle of the band contest by yelling/cheering/clapping. it's so subjective! glad your friends placed, at least.

yellow is such a pretty color with your skin and hair! you look beautiful.

  11. I am SO jealous! I went out in shorts and rubber boots today only to slip on ice and destroy my leg! Thats what I get for pretending its warm enough for shorts!

I love the high waisted pants! You pull them off perfectly! I also love the blog layout. So clean and simple. It's so easy to go overboard with it. Hence why my blog layout changes daily! somday I'll get it right!

  12. Battle of the Bands, I haven't been to one of those in a while. Over a year...how ridiculous. Alas, I can live vicariously through you. And your hair also. I've always admired girls with the bone structure to be able to pull off short cuts like yours (ahem ahem Tegan & Sara). I could never, I hide behind my long hair like a security blanket.
Your style is so unique, I wish I could have an eye like you. Honestly I would have never been able to put together this outfit, but I love everything about it. The bold yellow top, the menswear inspired pant, the clever play on black and brown with your shoes and belt, even the little apple necklace! You really are quite divine!

Totally loving that top and the high waisted pants! The yellow color really makes it pop, and that flower is lovely.

  15. Oh my gosh you look great in those pants! And the yellow tank just spruces it up even more. And for the record, I am super jealous of your 70 degree day. My friends from Berkley just posted their pics of daffodils growing in their backyard on facebook. Made me so mad! lol!!

  19. hi missy, those pants look incredibly chic on you! Man if I dressed half as well as you do now when I was in high school I'd be set. I can't even imaging how your style will evolve in a few years :) and I want to go to a battle of the bands! That last one i've been to was an eon ago.

  20. Ooh, I love your belt! Obviously we have similar hair, but I really like how yours is all smooth and sleek looking. I've been putting a ton of product in mine in a desperate attempt to give it some texture, but I might have to try a different way of styling sometime soon.

I love that wonderful golden color of your tank top! It matches the WTFAMAZING weather we had :)
