The Good Life

dress: forever 21, cardigan & bag: thrifted, vintage, wedges: thrifted, tights: target
Yesterday was my first Thanksgiving away from home - my first non-traditional celebration of a holiday, where I did everything but eat a turkey and pumpkin pie. As I've said before, Thanksgiving has never been one of my favorite holidays - I'm not hugely interested in food and that's the essential characteristic of this celebration. I view Thanksgiving as more of a reminder of the way I need to live my day-to-day life. Giving thanks for all the blessings that exist in your life should be an activity that is not reserved for one day where you sit around the table gorging yourself, and then the next day go shopping and support the consumerist society that we live in. (Of course, don't get me wrong. I'm as much of a consumer as everyone else.) Thanksgiving should be about being thankful for everything you've been given in your life; if should be about your family and your friends and those relationships that truly matter in your life.

I feel that this year I understand this even better, if only because I am away family and because my friends have turned into my family here in Seattle. I am so thankful for the people I've met here and the relationships I've built! I'm thankful for Seattle and the landscape that I pass through everyday. I'm thankful for the rain and the beauty held in an overcast day. I'm thankful for my family and the support they give me so unconditionally. I'm thankful for hot coffee and oatmeal with peanut butter in the mornings, and giggling endlessly with Kristie. Above all, I am just thankful for the gifts God has given me and the blessings he has placed so carefully and so purposefully into my life.

Remember how I said I did everything but eat a turkey and pumpkin pie? Well this is factual because my Thanksgiving dinner was Italian food! Kristie, me, my friends Katie and Henry, and Katie's visiting sister all went to Buca di Beppo and dined on delicious pasta - some of which I will be heating up for tomorrow's lunch! It was a good day. I have a good life. I hope your Thanksgiving reminded you of how good your life really is as well. xoxo

  3. We don't have Thanksgiving here, but I'd have such a hard time shoving those massive amounts of food down, that I'm pretty thankful -hehe- that we don't. I am thoroughly enjoying Black Friday though;)

You look wonderful! And that is one cozy cardigan<3

  5. I have had fish the past two years with my hunny because I had to work, but Italian sounds just as good! My sister took me to Bucca di Beppo in LA last year and I love that it's so family oriented with sharing and such. Anyway, you look lovely and I hope you had a great holiday with your friends!

  9. I love how you subtly incorporated leopard print into your look with your tights. I could barely tell they were there until I took a closer look. I'm glad you had such a nice and reflective Thanksgiving despite being away from your family. :)
