Little Boxes

dress & brogues: thrifted, purse: estate sale, top: crossroads
For the moment I'm feeling quite accomplished. Not in a way that makes up for the anxiety I'm feeling about college...no, but thanks for asking. Haha but I've taken a step in the right direction perhaps. Today I not only successfully painted my nails, but I also made an appointment to get my first tattoo! That means this is really happening, right? Eeeps. I'm excited but nervous. Actually, I'm feeling as if what I just stated is basically my life right now. Exciting, but nerve-wracking. Change is scary, but exhilarating. I'm pumped but terrified at the same time. As for the tattoo, the appointment was made for a week from this Saturday. While I'm at it, does anyone with tattoos have suggestions for mental preparation or just preparation in general? :)

This title is a reference to the song Little Boxes by Malvina Reynolds. Currently I'm getting a kick out of the show Weeds, and of course, this song is the opening music. Anyone else watch this? If I can't say anything else about this summer (which I can, don't worry), I can say that I have been watching some good movies and TV shows. Aw yeah. That's what it's all about. ;) In fact, I think I'm going to put on the kettle, make some tea, and watch Weeds. Hmm sounds about right. xx

  2. I really love that top layered over your adorable little dress. And those loafers are awesome! As for tattoos, I don't have any so I can't help but I can't wait to see yours! I've thought about getting one eventually but can't seem to think of anything I'd want permanently on my body. Maybe someday!

  3. Gosh, you're too pretty. <3

That's so awesome that you got your appointment for your tattoo! Eek, I bet you're so excited (even though a bit nervous, haha!). I've never had one, so I can't help you much in terms of mental preparation... but I have heard that it doesn't hurt like people thought it would, so that's good. :)

I like the layering of that top over your dress~ this is such a cute black and white outfit!

  4. I absolutely love your editing style, your pictures come out SO pretty. And topping a sweater over a dress is one of my favorite looks, it looks so casual and cozy. As for your tattoo- yay! The piece of advise i wish I had when I went was not to be afraid to make them redo the sticker outline multiple times. I felt like such a pain by the third time I made him redo it that I settled, and it was placed kinda crooked and makes me crazy sometimes when I look at it. So don't be scared to be high maintenance- this is permanent!

  5. you look so good! as for tattoos, they really don't hurt as much as people claim. if they hit a sore spot, just breathe through it, it'll be over in a second then after that it doesn't hurt ever again!

  6. I love the proportions of your sweater with that dress - super cute!

Did you know that song is about Daly City? My great grandmother was good friends with Malvina Reynolds. They ran in the same Berkeley Unitarian Universalist circle, and, legend has it, they even put on their white gloves and good hats to protest Vietnam with the young folks and students.

One last thing! College is wonderful, and I'm sure you'll have the best time of your life so far. Transition can be hard, and it takes a while to figure out who your truly dear friends are, but everyone is in the same boat. Everyone's the new kid. Freshman year is such an exciting time! I'm kinda jealous :P

  11. DRINK LOTS OF WATER. Good advice for a standard day, but especially before getting tattooed.

  13. i don't know what you are getting tattooed, but think long and hard about placement. i have 3 tattoos and sometimes the one on my foot (red oak leaves) makes me crazy because i feel like it clashes with a certain pair of shoes or outfit. i know that sounds silly, but i wish now that i had placed it somewhere else. foot tattoos are the worst pain by the way because of all of the nerve endings in your feet and the vibration of the needle on the bones of your feet. i have an acorn on my inner ankle that i barely felt. so depending on where you decide to put your tattoo be prepared for some pain. it's bearable, but it still hurts.

  14. p.s. i thought about my oak leaf tattoo and its placement months before i got it and it still bothers me! choose wisely! ;)

  16. Getting my first tattoo was terrifying. I was shaking so badly I had to call a friend to drive me to the tattoo parlor. When I got there I thought I was going to throw up but as soon as that needle touched my skin all of the anxiety melted away. I knew I had wanted it for so long and I was finally getting it! Eat and drink water before hand, bring some water with you too, a friend is always a great support system, and bring a blanket or sweatshirt. Even though it wasn't cold in the shop I got progressively colder as the session progressed. Good luck! I can wait to see it.

  17. So exciting to hear about your tattoo appointment! I don't think I could ever be brave enough to get one done...probably because I'm so scared of change! I know whatever you get will be beyond lovely though ♥

And perhaps chat with Kaelah of Little Chief Honey bee--I know she's gotten a ton of tats done! x

  18. I'm doing a tattoo this month too, how awesome is that? It is going to be my first one and I'm already freaking out but I guess that the best thing to do right now is just relax and think about how amazing it is going to be in the end.
