Daylight Withdrawing

denim jumper: wasteland, sweater: forever 21, sandals & button up: thrifted
Hi lovelies! Eeps I wanted today to be a Mixtape Monday day, but somehow I didn't get all my ducks in a row, so the playlist didn't come together in time. These photos are actually from weeks ago when my friend Mallory helped me one night after my 3-5 pm class. The problem with it being at that time is that that is prime time for taking photos. So as you can see, the lighting isn't my best, but I still enjoyed this outfit too much to let it go to waste. It's not often anymore that I get to wear non-boots (because of the rain factor), so I was grateful when I had the opportunity to wear them this day.

I've reached my final week of classes this quarter, and next week are finals - and the week that I fly home! I can't believe how quickly everything has gone by, though I have said that far too often, haven't I? At this point I am looking forward to being back and spending the Christmas season with my family. I talked to my mom on the phone tonight and we talked about baking cookies, and getting a Christmas tree, and going to choral concerts - and it just made my heart glad! It will be good to be back in the bay and back with old friends and back with my family.

Of course, on the flip side, I'm going to miss my family here in Seattle like crazy, I already know it. Fortunately, Mallory lives in Nor Cal too so we will get to see each other. And who knows, maybe we will tool it on down to central California to visit Kristie. What will I do without my beloved roommate for a whole month? ;) Anyway! Enjoy your late late Monday, or Tuesday depending on when you read this! xxoo

The Good Life

dress: forever 21, cardigan & bag: thrifted, vintage, wedges: thrifted, tights: target
Yesterday was my first Thanksgiving away from home - my first non-traditional celebration of a holiday, where I did everything but eat a turkey and pumpkin pie. As I've said before, Thanksgiving has never been one of my favorite holidays - I'm not hugely interested in food and that's the essential characteristic of this celebration. I view Thanksgiving as more of a reminder of the way I need to live my day-to-day life. Giving thanks for all the blessings that exist in your life should be an activity that is not reserved for one day where you sit around the table gorging yourself, and then the next day go shopping and support the consumerist society that we live in. (Of course, don't get me wrong. I'm as much of a consumer as everyone else.) Thanksgiving should be about being thankful for everything you've been given in your life; if should be about your family and your friends and those relationships that truly matter in your life.

I feel that this year I understand this even better, if only because I am away family and because my friends have turned into my family here in Seattle. I am so thankful for the people I've met here and the relationships I've built! I'm thankful for Seattle and the landscape that I pass through everyday. I'm thankful for the rain and the beauty held in an overcast day. I'm thankful for my family and the support they give me so unconditionally. I'm thankful for hot coffee and oatmeal with peanut butter in the mornings, and giggling endlessly with Kristie. Above all, I am just thankful for the gifts God has given me and the blessings he has placed so carefully and so purposefully into my life.

Remember how I said I did everything but eat a turkey and pumpkin pie? Well this is factual because my Thanksgiving dinner was Italian food! Kristie, me, my friends Katie and Henry, and Katie's visiting sister all went to Buca di Beppo and dined on delicious pasta - some of which I will be heating up for tomorrow's lunch! It was a good day. I have a good life. I hope your Thanksgiving reminded you of how good your life really is as well. xoxo

And then the heavens opened,

Today marks the first day of my mini break for Thanksgiving - though really I'm not sure how much of a break it will be because one of my finals is a week from today. Eeeeps. I'm confident that everything will go well though; going to finish off the quarter strong! And I'm basically registered for next quarter classes too - only waitlisted for one. I'm beginning to like the quarter system more and more! Not only does it go by quickly and then you move on to new classes (which is extremely beneficial if you don't enjoy the class...) but also you don't have homework to do over the winter and spring breaks because you are finished with those previous classes! I can dig that.

These photos are from yesterday when the weather was going crazy (aka rain coming down in sheets, then bright blue skies for a bit, then overcast and rain again). Kristie was a doll and ran outside to take these with me when we caught a dry patch. Funny story though; apparently these boots aren't quite as waterproof as I thought so I came back inside with wet feet in some wet boots. So of course I did what came naturally to me. I blow dried my boots with my feet still inside 'em! Hollaaaaaa xo

Monday Musings

Today was an interesting day; a deviation from the norm of a Monday at the least. I am in the mood for a bit of a free form blog post tonight so I'm just going to run with it. Today I...

♥ Woke up later than planned due to the pleasant sound of rain and my extra comfortable bed (I recently got memory foam!) - it was a decent beginning to the first day of the week, despite having to scurry a bit in the shower and the like.

♥ Started watching Harry Potter 7 part 2 in one of my classes, which not only made the class go by quickly, but also was enjoyable! The TA brought in treats too, and I was content. I also took an exam in my logic class which I'm pretty sure I did well on. ;) Which reminds me - whyever did my AP teachers in highschool make me think college would be pure hell? I feel like the AP classes were more difficult in a lot of ways. Maybe it's because I have more time now to study and less subjects for which to study.

♥ The afternoon was fairy normal until abruptly, the power went out. People freaked out and acted crazy and excited, as expected. I was more concerned with whether or not power would ever come back on or if we would have to resort to eating each other to stay alive. We don't want no Donner Party situation up in this. Fortunately classes were cancelled and power came back on and we all stayed alive and the rain kept on pouring throughout!

♥ Now I'm huddled up in my room in a comfy sweater and leggings; being at peace with a cup of green tea with honey. I think I'm going to be a home body and just curl up in bed and download a movie, because honestly, what is homework and why would I do it (also I don't really have much homework plus no class tomorrow soooo)

And now I'll leave you with a photo of me and my love Mallory whom I adore & who I took webcam photos with on Friday night because we don't party here, we just snuggle. : ) xo

A Little Tour

Better late than never - here are photos from my half of my shared dorm room! I'm in a double with Kristie (last photo) as you all know. I didn't have a post prepared for today, so I spent the afternoon trying to catch the best lighting so I could take these. I think they turned out perfect, plus I'm just very happy with how my living space looks. It feels very "me", perhaps (dare I say?) more than my room back home. It could be because I have less space to worry about? I'm not sure! Either way, I'm pleased.

We've reached the closing few weeks of my first quarter of college and if I'm right, we have eighteen days left! Today I bought my plane tickets back home. :) This week I finish up with classes Wednesday morning and have a nice long weekend to celebrate Thanksgiving with my friends who also aren't going home, and probably to study for finals! Eeeps. I hope you all are having a great weekend! xxoo

Honeycomb

dress: crossroads, cardigan: thrifted, jacket: the gap, tights: target, boots: flea market
I just wanted to make a quick post in the midst of my Thursday to say hello and show you what I wore yesterday! This is one of my favorite outfits as of lately, probably because I haven't seen this dress or these boots for months. My mom brought both up when she visited, and I'm so glad! Especially the boots. Boots are kind of my go-to shoe here in Seattle, so another pair is gladly welcomed!

I'm feeling a bit stressed out today because my class registration starts tomorrow. I'm a freshmen so of course I get to register the very last day. Ugh so much anxiety. Especially because I'm Undeclared I don't have a specific path to follow and I'm kind of up in the air about the classes I should take. Please pray for me getting into the classes I want and for tomorrow morning at 9:00 to be smooth sailing...! I've been staring at the time schedule for next quarter for the last couple hours, watching as the class seats go up and down and the waitlisting beginning...Sigh. Well, I hope your Thursday is going well! At least tomorrow is Friday! :) xxoo

Mom & Me

dress: thrifted, sweater & socks: h&m, leather jacket: from mom, vintage, boots & bag: marshall's
As you guys know, my mom came up to Seattle for a visit this past weekend! It was so great to see her and to just talk and be in eachother's presence. We did a lot of general catching up as well as some shopping for random things needed for dorm life. I also took her to some of my favorite places around Fremont, which was cool because I felt a little bit like an expert - guiding her around with all my expanse of knowledge. ;) We went to a couple vintage stores, Milstead, the Fremont Troll (a definite touristy place, but cool nonetheless!) and wrapping up the evening we went to see Wreck-it Ralph which was a fantastic movie, one that I definitely recommend.

Lately I've sort of been going back and forth about wanting to be back home vs. wanting to continue being independent and exploring this new city. Of course I'm going to be doing both whether I want to or not, I think I'm just examining how I feel about each one. Seeing my mom made me miss my family and talking with them every day, but also it made me glad to be here on my own. I'm not really sure. I guess this is all part of the away-from-home process, but what is home exactly anyway? I already know that I love Seattle more than Novato or Northern California. But "home" isn't limited to the location of where you are - it depends on the people and the emotions associated with it.

"Growing up" is weird. What does it even mean or how do you deal with it? These are musings that have sort of been hitting me lately. Anyway, enjoy these photos! See you soon! xxoo

Cold Hands, Warm Heart

dress & tights: target, cardigan: thrifted, vintage, boots: dsw, bag: marshall's
Happy weekend! I'm currently with my mom, as she is visiting Seattle this weekend! So this post is a scheduled one. ;) These are photos from earlier this past week that my friend Deb took. Don't let these photos deceive you about the temperature - I was freezing by the end of this photoshoot! I'm not sure what happened, but the feeling of winter is definitely sneaking up on us over here. Just last week I feel like it was a consistent five degrees warmer than it has been this week. It's amusing - back home the temperature is still in the 60s!

Anyway, I suppose with the temperatures dropping quickly, now is a good time to break out all the hot drinks - and who doesn't enjoy that? Kristie and I bought the Thanksgiving blend from Starbucks about a week ago and I swear it's so yummy. If I could drink coffee all throughout the day, I would. Who am I now? Haha. At least I can say now I enjoy tea more, as well! I used to not be so fond of it, but now it holds a special place in my heart. ♥ Have a beautiful day and drink lots of coffee and tea! xxoo
