Goodbye 2012, Hello 2013!

Here's to the last post of 2012 on Missing Lovebirds! What a year it's been, am I right? As always, I feel like it was just yesterday that I was writing this post back in 2011. This year has been full of change and I am thankful as well as content with the turn that my life has taken. I have learned that there is so much outside of life at home and life in high school. I have learned that I actually have desires and dreams. I have learned it's important to face problems in a relationship and not to push them off to be dealt with later - and additionally, I have learned that finding that perfect one is going to take a bit of trial-and-error and that's all part of the process. I have learned that being independent is a good thing; being alone is a good thing.

I have learned that true friends are something that need to be cherished, and 2012 was certainly the year that I found my true friends - this has never been something I could say before now. I have learned that holding on to a friendship instead of trying to pursue a relationship is something that can be so valuable for the future. I have learned that God is so clearly working in my life every day, and when I acknowledge this - it's amazing how I see the world around me change.

In case you're curious, here are some significant things that happened in 2012 that have shaped me or this blog. ♥

▶ Went through the second half of my senior year of high school - within that completing my senior project, senior recital, and of course, I attended prom with (my then-boyfriend) Nat. I finished my high school career with not only a decently high GPA, but achievements in the science and math fields (four years of both).

▶ During the last week of school, Nat and I ended our relationship of over a year, which I discuss here.  I also attended my graduation ceremony at the end of that same week, which was not the best day. It turned out Nat came to see me and let's just say when we were supposed to be taking happy photos and throwing our hats in the air, I was sobbing behind my sunglasses.

▶ My first trip of summer 2012 was going to Seattle with my dad to the New Student Assigning event at SPU. We did a few touristy things like going to the top of the Space Needle, seeing museums, drinking coffee, etc - but mainly this event got me even more excited to leave California and move up to Seattle. :)

▶ In July I went on my second trip up to the Midwest to attend a family reunion in the scorching summer heat of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Since the majority of my extended family lives so far away, it's always nice seeing them every few summers and reconnecting!

▶ My third and final trip this past summer was over to New York City in August to stay with Nicole (the love of my life). I had never been to NY before so this trip was by far the most exciting and I just absolutely adored spending that long weekend with a person I met OVER THE INTERNET. Even though it was disgustingly hot, I had The Best time and I can't wait to see Nicole again.

▶ Towards the end of August, I finally got my first tattoo! I'm so pleased with how he turned out and I am anxiously anticipating the warm weather of spring and summer where I will get to show my little moth off!

▶ In the beginning of September I uploaded my first ever vlog! I am so awkward and I jump all over the place and stoooopid stuff like that. But there's the link if you want to watch!

▶ On September 7th I celebrated my 19th birthday which is unbelievable because I still don't feel "19" or whatever I'm supposed to feel. Oh well, at least now I can sing "Nineteen" by Tegan and Sara and it's legit.

▶ On September 19th, my family and I packed up the car and we made the long haul (12 hours!) up to Seattle, Washington -- my new home.

▶ October was a quiet month for Missing Lovebirds as I settled into college and had the best month of my life making friends and exploring the city. I saw The xx live in concert on October 6th and it was honestly the most amazing experience ever. I am so in love with that band and their newest album, Coexist. In October I also went on my first retreat to SPU's Camp Casey which was a tiring but very exciting weekend.

▶ November was a lovely month because I not only blogged more, but also people came to see me in Seattle! I finally met the lovely Maggie and we had a great time shopping downtown and chatting IN REAL LIFE. The weekend after, I received a visit from my mom when she flew up to see me! It was so great to hang with her again like old times.

▶ For Thanksgiving, I spent the long weekend with my friends and we went to Buca di Beppo to feast instead of having a traditional meal. This day was a true reminder of all the Good in my life and how much God has given me.

▶ My computer stopped working during finals week, which was a bummer, but I made it and passed all my classes! Two A's and two B+'s! And then before I knew it, I was flying home to the Bay area for Christmas break on December 5th!

▶ Since being home, I've spent a lot of time with family and old friends and had a lovely Christmas that certainly came out of nowhere this year. Now I'm simply waiting for the New Year!

If you made it through that, then I applaud you! I know that was long, hahah. Anyway, I certainly hope you all have looked to the good things that have happened in 2012 and not dwelled on the bad. And here's to 2013! I'm excited for a fresh start and for more chances to make the most of this amazing life. I love you all so much and every day I am thankful to have this outlet and a place to share and inspire. Next stop... 2013! See you there! xxoo

  1. Aw, Elanor. I reread some of your old posts and I think it's amazing how far you've come this year. I remember how thankful both of us were that we were both going through break-ups at the same time, and as horrible as it was that we both had to go through it, having someone to talk to through it meant the world. You are so much stronger and I am so much stronger and you only have great things ahead! Your blog will always be a daily read and personal favorite in my book. You are the sweetest and SO awesome and I am SO unbelievably happy we met and I can't wait to meet again next semester <3<3<3<3
