Fish Scales in the Deep Blue

dress (worn as a top): forever 21, skirt & purse: thrifted, wedges: dsw, sunglasses: h&m. fox ring: c/o oasap
Guys, I apologize for my overuse of this purse. It's just so dang versatile I want to wear it with everything! Phew, now that that's off my chest... I'm wearing this little getup right now. I've worn this dress as a shirt before with this skirt, but finally I'm getting around to photographing the outfit! I love the colors together - what do you think? This dress's print has always vividly reminded me of fish scales. Odd, but I can dig it.

On a personal note - yesterday I got together for coffee with Derek, my ex of a few years ago (long time readers may remember him). I haven't seen him for a long, long while. We caught up and swapped stories before parting ways. It's interesting how time works, isn't it? One day you think you are completely in love, and then two years later you're in a whole different place. Seeing Derek made me realize that it is so completely true that time heals all wounds. I hope that by next summer or even sooner, I'll be able to sit down for coffee with Nat and it will be as easy and simple.

Lately I've been going crazy with new music. Via friends, Pandora, or random Youtube surfing, I've stumbled across new artists and my iTunes has been filling up day by day! I love having new music. :) If anything, that's what I hope these mixes give you - an opportunity to learn about some amazing music that's out there. Here are some of my favorite new finds! xx {original photo}

Army Green & Florals

jacket: the gap, dress & moccasins: thrifted, purse: vintage, thrifted, pin: rivertown revival fest

Staples: this army green coat and my wonderfully reliable vintage market bag. Oh, and let's throw in a floral dress and that basically makes this outfit. A comfortable one at that! I wore this a few days ago and I want to replicate it every day now! Unfortunately, It's been nice and warm lately, so wearing this jacket isn't exactly necessary. So I'll be saving it for Seattle. ;) I've been attempting to build my wardrobe up for the change in climate that I will be facing. I still haven't decided what all I'm bringing of my clothes, but I know it's going to be about layers layers layers.

I have some exciting news! Next Thursday I will be hopping onboard an 8 hour flight across the United States to New York City! My second time ever being on the east coast, and my first time to the city! I will be flying there by myself and meeting Nicole with whom I'll be spending the weekend! I'm so thrilled to be able to have this experience in a city as famous as New York with a fantastic friend. :) I love that blogging has lead me to this! I would never have met Nicole or had this opportunity if I didn't blog and build the relationships I did through it. Life can be pretty extraordinary, don't you think? xx

Helium Reprise

top: costco, skirt: thrifted, boots: marshall's, purse: forever 21, headband: hot topic, belt: vintage
Helloo dolls! I'm so glad a bunch of you jumped on board entering my GIVEAWAY! I think the items are really fun and I almost want to keep that necklace for myself. But as they say, when you pick out a gift for someone that you yourself love, then the person is going to love it too! So go and enter if you haven't already! :)

In some real-life news, I've gotten a hold of my roommate for next year! Her name is Kristie and so far she seems really nice. We've started emailing back and forth so hopefully by the time we meet in September, we'll know a good amount about one another. I'm going into the whole dorm room/sharing space/etc thing with a positive attitude! I'm not too inflexible; I'll be able to handle it! I think it will be exciting and different. What did you think of your dorming experience, if you had one? I know some people hate it, but everyone is different!

& here's a little update for you all... lately, when I'm not hanging out with people, I've been: exercising (trying to keep this one up), painting branches, watching tv shows, reading The Fellowship of the Ring, and trying to keep up with the SPU financial aid/loan requirements that I have not completed... A little frustrated with that last one...!! xx

Rivertown Revival

bandeau: american apparel, skirt: flea market, vintage, top: vintage, boots & purse: thrifted, vintage
Before I begin this post, I would just like to attempt to express to you how incredibly and unbearably hot it was the day that I took these photos. I could be a privileged Marinite who is used to a very temperate summer (actually every season is pretty temperate) ... but I was wearing this outfit - which isn't much as it is - and I was sweating extensively. I'm of the opinion that being sweaty, wet, and hot is the worst part about hot weather. Everything sticks to you and there is no way to get comfortable.

Anyway! Enough on that! On this disturbingly hot Saturday, I went to the Petaluma Rivertown Revival festival. It is a unique art-based fest celebrating the Petaluma River. There was great food, awesome music, and of course many interesting booths and vendors. The most nifty part of the whole fest were the costumes. Essentially it was steampunk! And you all know how much I love steampunk; given my Halloween costume this past year. Only a few weeks ago did I first hear about the festival and I'm still surprised to learn that Marin/Sonoma has a steampunk community of sorts.

My costume was put together the night before, so it wasn't anything amazing but I was certainly content with the outcome! I suppose this outfit is a more summery version of steampunk, as opposed to my Halloween costume which was a bit on the darker side. I look forward to going to more fun fests like this and dressing up, though. I'm nearly positive that there is a scene for everything in Seattle, so I'm not too worried! ;) xx

Vintage & Lunch Dates

dress & clutch: vintage, wedges: thrifted
One of my favorite people to spend time with is my mom. In the past few years I occasionally even found myself hanging out with her more than with girlfriends my own age. I felt a little nervous about it, wondering if I was so antisocial that I had to result in hanging out with my mom... But generally these thoughts last only a minute or so and then I remind myself that my mom is actually much more cool than half the people I know. So basically - whatever!

She's working a 9-5 job now, which she had not done most of my childhood, so I unfortunately don't see her around the house as much as I used to. I'm really happy for her though because she's enjoying her job which is great! And we still make time to see each other and hang out like we both enjoy doing. Just this past week on Tuesday I went to go meet her for lunch and chat during her hour long break. My schedule this summer has been nothing but flexible and basically I can do what I want when I want. No, I don't have a job which is a bad thing but also a good thing. And believe me, I'm going to be getting a work's study job come this fall anyway.

I wore this vintage dress to our little lunch date - it is one of the dresses from my great-grandma Sylvia. We've been having obscure chilly days here in Marin and this day was one of them. I was actually quite content with the long sleeves of this 70s frock.  My mom believes that my great-grandma wore this dress to my mom's highschool graduation! I wonder if there's a photo from the occasion? Wouldn't it be cool to see the original owner wearing something you've worn? :) xx

Fairy in a Bottle

dress: c/o sugarlips, sandals: target, purse: thrifted
When I received this dress from Sugarlips in the mail a couple days ago and tried it on, my first thought was: fairy. I figured that if I crafted together tulle and some sheer, glittered fabric, then strapped it on my back as wings, I would most certainly look like some enchanting little mythological creature. I entertained this thought quite excitedly because who wouldn't want to be a fairy? The dress is really a pretty little thing though. I'm decidedly in love with the asymmetrical/ high-low hemline. This is my first garment with this sort of hemline, but I hope I find more because they are incredibly fun! I know some people hate them (what with the name, "the mullet skirt", I understand why...), but I personally find it lovely. Your thoughts on the trend? Apparently it originated in the Victorian era, which is fascinating to me.

As I've mentioned before, I've been hanging out with more people lately and doing some fun things, one of which includes going to see Moonrise Kingdom! I know, I'm a bit late getting on board that train - but I saw it and that's what matters! And dang. It was good. After Fantastic Mr. Fox and Moonrise Kingdom, I can truly say I'm a fan of Wes Anderson. His delivery of themes and just the aesthetics of the film were truly beautiful. Not to mention Moonrise Kingdom was set in the 60s. Even better! Also, my desire for a record player has greatly increased after seeing the movie. As well as my desire for saddle shoes ("Sunday school shoes")... Well, happy Friday! xx
